Ohio high school agrees to remove Jesus painting

NEW CONCORD, Ohio (AP) -- A school in eastern Ohio says it will remove a painting of Jesus from a school office after the American Civil Liberties Union threatened a lawsuit.

The East Muskingum school district's board voted on Thursday to remove the painting from John Glenn High School in New Concord. School district Superintendent Jill Johnson says the painting was donated in honor of a Latin teacher who died in front of her class in 1971 after teaching for more than 50 years. She says the painting didn't endorse Christianity, calling it a memorial to someone who spent her life educating students.

 The painting will now be donated to a church.
