A jury has convicted serial killer Joseph Nissensohn, 62, of the 1981 murders of Monterey County teenagers Tammy Jarschke and Tanya Jones.
Jarschke, 13, and Jones, 14, disappeared June 25, 1981, after they ran away from a Seaside foster home. They were seen that day with Nissensohn, who was living and working in the area.
A man who was reportedly with the three told authorities that Nissensohn confided he wanted to take the girls to Chews Ridge to rape and kill them.
The girls' bodies were discovered on the Carmel Valley ridge about three months later. Tanya Jones' body was tied to a tree with electrical wire.
Sheriff's detectives later determined that Nissensohn's car had been towed from a fire road near the crime scene two days after the girls' disappearance.
Nissensohn was convicted Thursday by a jury in El Dorado, where he was also charged and convicted in the killing of South Lake Tahoe teenager, Kathy Graves, 15. Monterey County prosecutors agreed to have El Dorado prosecutors try all three cases.
Convicted of multiple murders with special circumstances, Nissensohn is facing a potential death sentence. The penalty phase of his trial is set to begin Nov. 12 in South Lake Tahoe.
