ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Angela Ingram) -- Two teens are locked up accused of posting violent threats on social media. Deputies say the students talked about a shooting spree and their dislike for New Miami High School. A teacher saw the postings and warned the principal.
The superintendent says safety is the priority so as soon as the principal found out sheriff's deputies were called to the school. The superintendent says the teacher spotted the messages Monday morning on Facebook. Deputies came to the school and questioned the 14 and 15-year-old girls.
They searched the girls' lockers but did not find any weapons. The superintendent says the Facebook postings were about the girls' general unhappiness with the school and there were comments about shooting but the threats did not target any specific person. He says New Miami teachers are well-trained. They have a "crisis plan" and the school practices drills to prepare for potentially dangerous situations.
A friend of the girls says the whole thing was taken out of context and the girls have never been in trouble. But the superintendent says threats of that nature are serious. The superintendent says at this point the teens have not been expelled. But there will be a recommendation for expulsion down the road.
Deputies took them to the Butler County Juvenile detention facility.
