Teenagers present cheque in memory of Shannan

A teenage fund-raiser who was described as having a ‘heart of gold’ has raised more than £1,300 in memory of a friend who died suddenly.

Dionne Geddes arranged and took part in an eight-hour darts marathon at the Commercial Inn in November for Epilepsy Scotland.

The charity was particularly poignant to Dionne, as her friend 13-year-old Shannan Stringer died after suffering from an epileptic seizure in August.

In addition Dionne and friends, Chilene Falconer, Chantell Mitllari and Robyn Towns also took part in a sponsored silence, which boosted the funds for the charity after raising £240.

On Friday afternoon, Dionne accompanied by those who took part in the marathon, handed over a cheque for £1,312 to the charity and they were joined by Shannan’s mum and dad, Claire Agnew and Martin Stringer, at Arbroath Academy


And Dionne’s mum Marie Coutts says she couldn’t be more proud of her daughter, who is always wanting to help others.

She explained: “This event is something very, very close to her heart.

“She thought that it would be the right thing to do, especially when Shannan’s family gave it the go-ahead.

“I’m very, very proud of her for organising this and she really does have a heart of gold.

“She just wants to help people and nothing fazes her. She’s always thinking of what to do next.”
Dionne is no stranger to fund-raising and she has helped out several charities recently – including the Arbroath branch of the RNLI – by carrying out bag packing sessions raising thousands of pounds in the process
