Sophomore's Body Found on Railroad Track

OXFORD, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- We are learning more about the death of a Miami University student whose body was found on the railroad tracks. Monday afternoon police identified him as 19-year-old Jacob Jarman, a sophomore from a suburb of Denver, Colorado. His body was found next to the tracks on College Avenue near Foxfire Drive over the weekend. Police aren’t saying whether or not alcohol was involved in this accident.

They say they are awaiting toxicology reports that won’t be available for a week or two. Police say that Jacob Jarman was with friends earlier in the evening the night he died at an off campus party.


However, he was alone when he died. Jarman is the fourth Miami student to die in recent years on these very dangerous tracks. The spot where Jacob Jarman’s body was found is along the same stretch of tracks where other Miami students were struck and killed in recent years.

Police say the tracks are a considerable distance from where Jarman lived at Hahne Hall on the north eastern part of campus. Crossing the tracks is against the law; there are “No Trespassing” signs posted.

But Oxford residents say they are a popular shortcut for students. Police say the CSX crew had no idea anyone was on the tracks Saturday morning. They didn’t know anyone had been hit and there had been an accident until several hours later
