Oregon To Unveil Youth Marijuana Prevention Advertisements
The state of Oregon is scheduled to unveil a new pilot project that’s aimed at warning young people to stay away from marijuana.
This move came after Oregonians voted to legalize recreational cannabis, the state found $4 million for a campaign targeted at keeping young people from using marijuana.
The TV, radio and internet ads will be unveiled Wednesday.
According to Kati Moseley with the Oregon Public Health Division “Brain development is not complete until your 20s. For the best chance to reach your full potential you should not use marijuana to get high while you are young. And then being high will impair your ability to drive, play sports, play video games, bike and do other activities.”
The pilot campaign is scheduled to run in the Portland and southern Oregon areas.
To measure the success of the pilot program, researchers will gauge and report back to the legislature next year.

Our Generation is More Than Just a Hashtag
Millennials and Gen Z-ers are often criticized for their need for instant gratification. No breaking news here. The “my way, right now” generations have the world at their fingertips. And while there are more case studies, research, and arguments than I can count bemoaning our generation’s addiction to technology, there are powerful benefits to being so connected. Thanks to technology, young adults are reshaping how an individual can make a difference. Our connectedness takes us beyond our communities, out of our comfort zones, and around the world. It empowers our generation to take action on issues that matter to us most.
Youth-driven social activism gets results. Our generation of activists has a tool unlike any previous generation: the technology to act instantly. We learn and connect online. We develop opinions and we use social media as a megaphone to make a difference. Online activism is a powerful experience; and I believe we are creating real change through it.
New Airport Name Highlights CMH's 87th Year
It's a milestone year for our Columbus, Ohio airport |
A new name, impressive growth and a modernized terminal are high points for CMH in its 87th year of operation.
Beginning with opening day July 8, 1929, the airport has been associated with numerous iconic aviators such as Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart and Jerrie Mock. And now our growing airport bears the name of John Glenn.
The tribute is fitting for this decorated Marine combat pilot from Ohio. He was the first American to orbit Earth aboard Friendship 7 in 1962. He later served four consecutive terms in the U.S. Senate and became the oldest person to fly in space at the age of 77 when he lifted off on the Space Shuttle Discovery. Glenn piloted his own aircraft until he was 90; he turns 95 this month. Throughout his life, Glenn has received numerous aviation accolades, including NASA's Ambassador of Exploration Award in 2006 and a Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in 2012. Many more of his accomplishments can be found at this link. |

Parents could pay if their child threatens school in Ohio
If your child makes a threat at school, you could be on the hook for thousands of dollars – if state lawmakers have their way.
A bill, introduced by Sen. Jim Hughes, R-Columbus, would allow school leaders to sue parents and guardians for costs associated with serious, confirmed threats from expelled students.
Ohio might lead the nation in threats on its schools, according to a review of news reports by the Cleveland-based National School Safety and Security Services. Recently, a 15-year-old boy threatened to blow up every school within a 50 mile-radius of Cincinnati. A concerning Instagram post led to charges for two Butler County teens. A central Ohio school canceled its homecoming festival after threats against the school.
